We love San Bernardino gneiss with its legendary silver-grey glittering color. We have been quarrying San Bernardino gneiss in the historic quarry at around 2000 meters above sea level since 2006. This beautiful paragneiss - also known by the old, less precise trade name Bündner Quarzit - comes from the well-known alpine Adula Group in the headwaters of the Rhine. The gneiss is practically the classic among Swiss natural stones.
DEMOLITION ON THE SAN BERNARDINO PASS
The historic San Bernardino quarry was reopened in summer 2006. At over 2000 meters above sea level, we quarry the silver-grey gneiss for a maximum of six months a year. The stone is extracted using the blasting and borehole method and with the help of large wheel loaders and excavators. Experienced specialists ensure that natural stone of the best possible quality is extracted.
